Vatnsnes peninsula

Vatnsnes is verdant and fertile peninsula in middle Húnaflói in North of Iceland. The peninsula is about 40 km long and with the highest point almost 900 meters above sea level. Farming and fishing has been the main occupation for people living there. For the last 20-30 years farming has declined but there are still few of the best sheep farming in Iceland. Great seal colonies are found on Vatnsnes and varied birdlife. Tourism is growing and seal watching places have been set up for last years.
The ring road on Vatnsnes is about 90 km and Vatnsnes is one of the “must see” places in Iceland. There you find greate nature and history and you must stop at, Ánastaðarstapi, Hamarsrétt, Svalbarð, Illugastaðir, Hvítserkur and Borgarvirki. Hvammstangi, largest village in Húnaþing vestra is also on Vatnsnes.
