Eldur í Húnaþingi is an exhilarating celebration of arts, entertainment, and community spirit. A community oriented culture festival, the 5 day gathering offers dozens of performances, activities, exhibitions, and screenings representative of the best in music, dance, comedy, film, circus, and family entertainment in Iceland and abroad.

Handbendi Brúðuleikhús is an international award winning puppetry and theatre production company based in Hvammstangi. Artistic Director Greta Clough is a former associate artist of the world famous Little Angel Theatre in London. Handbendi specialises in puppetry innovation and the creation of original productions which tour internationally throughout the year. The company is highly regarded for its critically acclaimed productions and unique puppetry designs. The studio is open for visitors on request and it is possible to book bespoke puppet making workshops for individuals or small groups.

Once a year, in September, farmers in Iceland will head up into the highlands to retrieve their sheep, who have been running free over the summer. After herding them back home the sheep need to be sorted and that's where the annual tradition of Réttir comes in. In Húnaþing vestra there are seven annual sheep roundups in the following places: Valdarásrétt, Hamarsrétt, Hrútatungurétt, Miðfjarðarrétt, Víðidalstungurétt, Þverárrétt, and Hvalsárrétt. Exact dates differ from year to year but the dates are often posted on the municipality website when the time comes.

Menningarfélag Húnaþings vestra (Húnaþing vestra culture association) hosts various events and other culture related activities in the municipality.
