Quite a discussion has been about free access to Icelandic nature this year. This debate comes as a result of increasing number of visitors every year. Few years ago Visitors to Iceland was around 350.000, but estimates for the year of 2015 is around one Million visitors. The result of this rapid development is that the landscape at many nature pearls is declining because of lack of service, information and bad access to the nature. There is much need for better access and investments in nature based tourism in Iceland. The question is now, who is going to pay for that? The Icelandic Government has been talking about visitors must buy “nature pass” when they visit Iceland. At the same time landowners are starting to charge a fee for every visitos that comes to their place.
We here in Húnaþing vestra in North Iceland want to remind all that here is free access to the nature. As long as you are not hurting the land and respect the rights of the Landowners.
